Valentine Njoroge

An African daughter of feminism

Valentine Njoroge is the founder and CEO of dadasphere Media Ltd, an innovative and exploratory platform for African women to be seen and to be heard. Dadasphere exists to empower and free women through sharing our lived experience.

Who is Valentine Njoroge?

Valentine grew up in Nairobi, and later studied in London and went on to get 2 degrees in the State University of New York, at Buffalo.

On return to Nairobi in 2004, she joined new and exciting radio stations and became a voice of feminism and curated and produced her own radio shows.

In 2007 she created and wrote “The Last Round” an open and frank weekly column in The Star newspaper about female sexuality and relationships. She very soon became the most read female columnist in East Africa. Valentine challenged societal norms, and traditional practices; she prompted discussions on what is the African Man, and the roles and behaviors of all society’s members in the intricate world of sex and relationships.

Realizing from an early age that sex, freedom and finance are inextricably linked, Valentine went on to create Kenya’s first women’s newspaper, called Valentine’s Weekly, in 2013. The paper tackled money and finance and sought to empower women inbusiness ownership and autonomy. It was during this endeavor that she joined the New Faces New Voices board of trustees and has served since.

In 2016 she curated TEDxLavingtonWomen in Nairobi, coordinating with TED International for a special global event in 70 countries across the world. Her event was sold out with 10 inspiring Kenyan speakers.
Valentine was also invited to join the founding members of The Graca Machel Women in Media Network, of which she remains an active member.

In 2017 dadasphere Media was created as a platform for African women to share their stories. To date 11 multi speaker events have been curated in Nairobi and dadasphere talks are available on YouTube and Showmax, having reached over 2 million viewers.
Recently dadasphere Media has launched 2 shows – The Loop and Unplugged – in conjunction with Mediamax on the K24 TV channel. Valentine is the presenter on The Loop and executive producer on both shows.
Valentine remains passionate about the economic empowerment and full self-expression of African women; believing that theirs is the voice that this continent has been waiting for.
